Second Grade Reading

Our book report theme for the month of November is "Let's Read a Mystery."  Your child will be receiving a mystery case folder with activity pages and an outline for the report.  In addition to our regular stories, we will be listening to short mysteries and putting clues together to find answers.  We will continue to work on learnig new vocabulary words and identifying the parts of a story.  Reading with expression is emphasized and our second grade students are becoming quite dramatic.
Therefore, their oral reading has become more entertaining and they are more easily able to identify how a character is feeling as the story progresses.

I am very thankful for the wonderful students in my reading classes.  They come to class each day eager to please and challenge themselves in the area of reading.
Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

The leaves are changing, the weather is getting colder and our first grade readers are learning more new words each day.  It is important to keep practicing our "rainbow words" daily since new words are added each week.  Our word wall is filling up with words we can read and use in our writing.  In the month of November, we will be completing our second book in our reading series.  Our class will also be reading and reciting poetry of many different varities.  There will be a new poem each week in your child's take home folder.  This poem will have vocabulary and sight words from the story we are reading.   Our young readers will get to show off their newly acquired skills by reading to some of our younger classes at Saint Edward's.  It is such a wonderful experience  to watch the first grade class 'show off" and motivate the nursery and kindergarten students by reading aloud to them.
