I am a teacher of Special Education. I have been teaching for twenty-seven years. I received by bachelors degree in elementary and special education. My master degrees are in Reading and Administration. In addition, I have completed seventy-five graduate course credits beyond my masters.
I directed and taught at my own Pre-School and Nursery, A+ for Kids, for fourteen years; teacher of special education at Children’s Village, Greenburg, New York, for three years; teacher of special education in Syosset, for ten years since 1998; and on loan from Syosset to teacher special education/ resource room, at St. Edward’s, since September 2007.
I have many interests and am involved in many aspects of education. I am an avid reader; music lover, enjoying subscriptions to the Philharmonic of New York, Chamber Music concerts, the theater, the ballet, and opera; computer literate; lover of sports: hiking, swimming, tennis, and walking; and world-wide traveler, incorporating my travels in my teaching. I have traveled to over thirty-five countries, including Papua New Guinea, Norwegian Arctic, Iceland, Madagascar, Bali, Borneo, Komodo Islands, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, plus many more. I have also visited at least thirty states in the United States, including hiking down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, and hiking in over twenty National Parks. I have a wonderful and loving family, with two married daughters, four grandcats, one granddog, two step grandchildren, and my own puppy, Cheyenne.
Character education is the deliberative effort to develop good character based on core virtues that are good for the individual and good for society.
Each month I celebrate a different character trait with special reading selections and discussions.

Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer. I have reviewed each of your child’s new I.E.P.’s, and will be working in collaboration with their respective teachers to make their educational experience more productive, and academically help them achieve their fullest potential.
If you have any questions and would like to speak to me, please call the school and leave a message, and I will return the call at the end of the school day. I will also keep you abreast of your child’s progress as well. I look forward to seeing you at Open House, Monday, September 15, 2008 at 7:30. Be sure to check out my St. Edward’s website periodically, as I update it monthly. It has many important articles and lots of useful information including state testing dates.
Thanking you in advance for your anticipated cooperation and looking forward to another wonderful school year.
Fondly,
Ms. Silverman
