Registration Information
St. Edward the Confessor School
2008 - 2009 School Year

Choosing the right school for your child takes time. Does the school have a good reputation? What are the teachers like? Will my child fit in? What about extracurricular activities? Does the school prepare its students for high school? These are just some of the questions you will soon be asking, if you haven’t already. The administration, faculty and staff at St. Edward the Confessor want to make it easy for you to learn about our school. Open House sessions for prospective parents are offered several times throughout the year. This year Open House sessions are scheduled from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. on

November 13, 2007;
December 11 & 12, 2007;
and January 22 & 23, 2008.

Individual tours are also available by calling Allison Morris at (516) 921-8030, ext. 135.

Registration

Every parent is asked to meet with our principal, Mrs. Anne Schaefer, prior to registration. This meeting will give the principal an opportunity to answer your questions and to learn more about your child. These meetings can take place during Open House sessions or another scheduled time.

Students transferring into Grades 1 through 8 are asked to spend a day with their prospective class prior to registration or soon thereafter. This is an ideal way for your child to fully experience all our school offers. Students will not be admitted into the school until this has taken place. This must be arranged in advance with our principal, Mrs. Schaefer.

About St. Edward School

St. Edward the Confessor School offers three distinct programs - Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle School - all in one building. This environment allows older students to serve as role models to our younger students. SEC School is an excellent school academically, spiritually, and socially.

Academics: Our academic programs meet and exceed New York State and Diocese of Rockville Centre requirements. The youngsters who attend our pre-K and nursery programs are well prepared for kindergarten. Our students’ 4th, 5th and 8th grade New York State test scores are consistently above or comparable to the local school districts’ and diocesan results. Our faculty teaches so that each child is prepared to reach their full potential. Our 8th grade graduates are regularly accepted into the Catholic high school of their choice. In fact, many 8th graders are accepted into all three of their choices.

Spirituality: First and foremost, St. Edward the Confessor is a Catholic School. All students learn about the Catholic faith - from learning prayers to preparing for the sacraments of First Holy Communion, Reconciliation and Confirmation, and from studying the Bible to learning about Christian Morality. Children in grades K - 8 attend school and class Masses in church throughout the year. In addition, our Pastor, Father Thomas Fusco, leads “Fridays with Fr. Tom” during which he teaches students in particular grades about a relevant topic. During one session, students might learn to pray the Rosary while during another there might be a discussion about the importance of good sportsmanship.
The majority of students at St. Edward the Confessor School are Catholic. All students, regardless of religious background, are required to attend Religion classes and Masses with their class.

Extracurricular: A variety of extracurricular activities are offered to students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. These programs are available during lunch time or after school, depending on the activity. Some programs are open to all students, while others are available to students in particular grades.

Socialization: St. Edward the Confessor School is a small school with many opportunities for children and parents to get to know each other outside of the classroom. Extracurricular activities allow students to interact in a less structured, yet safe, environment. The Parents Association of St. Edward’s (PASE) sponsors numerous social activities. A family picnic, New Parents Cocktail Party, Golf Outing, Holiday Boutique, Sports Day, Grandparents Tea and Scholastic Book Fair are some of the events slated for the 2007-2008 school year. Parents are encouraged to get involved as class parents, class trip chaperones, lunch duty aides and in PASE activities. St. Edward the Confessor Parish also offers a thriving CYO sports program for basketball and softball. This presents another opportunity for children to socialize and parents to become involved in our parish.
